Overseas Pakistanis should be allowed to vote and contest elections in Pakistan: Unanimous resolution of Convention


Communication & Media Cell, Detroit, December 19th, 2012 | The second day of MQM USA convention held under the banner of “Overseas Pakistanis Convention” in Detroit was a huge success. Large number of Pakistanis from all walks of life along with the workers and supporters of MQM attended the Overseas Pakistanis Convention. The Patron in chief of MQM North America, Dr, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and the Central Organizer of MQM USA, Junaid Fahmi addressed the gathering.

Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui talked about the current political and security situation of Pakistan and the role of overseas Pakistanis. He said that once again conspiracies are being hatched in different quarters and power corridors of Pakistan against the leadership of Mr. Altaf Hussain. These conspiracies are aimed to malign and corner the leadership of MQM so that the fast spreading message of revolution could be stopped.  

He further said that issuance of contempt notice to Mr. Altaf Hussain, the leader of 3rd largest political party for raising the voice of masses is unacceptable to the people of Pakistan.  He further added that Pakistani nation expects the judiciary to pass un-biased judgments on the basis of justice.

Dr. Khalid Maqbool said that unjust and racial decision of Judiciary against Karachi is increasing the sense of deprivation in the urban areas of Sind. Pakistan is facing 1971 like situation and the act of cornering the patriotic forces of Pakistan would only harm the country. He said that Mr. Altaf Hussain is the only leader who has the vision, wisdom, ideology and sincere leadership to bring Pakistan back on the path of peace, progress and prosperity.

He highlighted the role and contribution of overseas Pakistanis towards the betterment of Pakistan. He said that overseas Pakistanis are playing vital role in strengthening the economy of Pakistan and they should be treated equally. We won’t allow any discrimination towards the patriotic Pakistanis living outside Pakistan, he further added.

 While addressing the Overseas Pakistanis Convention, Central Organizer Junaid Fahmi said that MQM is the only political party raising voice for Overseas Pakistanis which includes an important issue of dual nationality. He said that Overseas Pakistanis should not only get the right of vote but to contest elections in Pakistan.

Junaid Fahmi thanked the Minister for overseas Pakistanis, Dr. Farooq Sattar on his valuable services for overseas Pakistanis. He said that due to his hard work; the confidence of overseas Pakistanis has strengthened and increase in the remittance is the proof of his dedication. He said that the successful Overseas Pakistanis Convention by MQM USA has proved that overseas Pakistanis have united under the leadership of Mr. Altaf Hussain.

In his concluding remarks, Junaid Fahmi highly praised the efforts of Overseas Pakistanis for a prosper Pakistan and said that they are portraying the soft and bright image of Pakistan around the globe.

The speakers from Pakistani community demanded from Pakistan government to amend the laws for overseas Pakistanis. A unanimous resolution was passed by the participants of Convention demanding Pakistani government and judiciary to provide equal rights and opportunities to Overseas Pakistanis.

In the end, awards were presented to the Pakistanis who are serving the community with their literature, social work and by their profession.  

Social media camp was set up in the Convention Hall where MQM USA workers were sharing the latest happenings on Twitter and Facebook. Joint In charges of CMC USA Fawad Rehman and Shariq Sajjad were also present at Social Media Camp.

In the end Muhammad Nizam, the in charge of Detroit chapter thanked all the guests. Many Pakistani singers including Imran Javed spread the colors of music in the end.
